Education

- March 2000. Awarded PhD discussing the thesis "Unit processes in braided rivers" at the University of Padua. Supervisor: Prof. Marco Tubino.

- 1997. Qualification for the Engineering profession at the University of Genoa.

- July 1996. Graduated in Hydraulic Civil Engineering at the University of Genoa with 110/110 cum laude. Discussed the thesis "Formation of fluvial bars in the presence of suspended load", supervisors Prof. Giovanni Seminara (University of Genoa) and Prof. Marco Tubino (University of Trento).

Work Experiences

- Since November 2021 Professor of Hydraulics at the University of Genoa, Department of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering.

- From October 2014 to October 2021 Associate Professor of Hydraulics at the University of Genoa, Department of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering.

- From December 2009 to September 2014 Lecturer in Hydraulics at the University of Genoa, Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering.

- From September 2006 to February 2008 on sabbatical at the Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College London (UK).

- From November 1998 to December 2009 Lecturer in Hydraulics at the University of L'Aquila, Department of Engineering of Structures, Water and Soil.

Research interests and activities

Is author of numerous publications on leading international journals of fluid mechanics, hydraulics and bioengineering.

Has participated in many funded research projects.

Actively carries out research work in the fields of basic and biological fluid mechanics and river morphodynamics, in collaboration with both Italian and international research groups. Has conducted both theoretical and experimental research.

Has acted as a reviewer for more than 50 different scientific journals.

Master courses

2008-2010: Fluid Dynamics for students in Mathematical Engineering at the University of L'Aquila. Contents of the course: principles of fluid mechanics and applications.

2008-2010: Biofluid Dynamics for students in Mathematical Engineering at the University of L'Aquila. Contents of the course: introduction to fluid mechanics, blood rheology, cardiovascular fluid dynamics.

2008: Environmental Fluid Mechanics for students in Environmental Engineering at the University of L'Aquila. Contents of the course: Basic principles of diffusion, advection and dispersion of passive tracers. Mixing processes in rivers.

2000-2006: Hydraulics II for students in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of L'Aquila. Contents of the course: open channel flow, principles of sediment transport and river morphodynamics.

2000-2006: Hydraulics for students in Architectural Engineering at the University of L'Aquila. Contents of the course: basic principles of hydraulics and applications.

Students supervision

Has supervised and co-supervised several PhD students at the Universities of L’Aquila, Genova and Trento.

Has supervised approximately 15 MS theses on topics related to fluid mechanics, biological fluid mechanics, hydraulics and river morphodynamics.
